Are your employees phoning it in?
It’s an important thing to know: Productivity takes a hit when workers are disengaged, or emotionally and psychologically disconnected from their jobs and workplaces.
It makes sense that engaged workers exhibit better work performance than those who are disengaged, as studies have repeatedly shown to be true. But recently, Gallup has found that there is also a link between better engagement and better health.
Disengaged workers generally have more stress and fewer sources of pleasure at work than their engaged coworkers, Gallup reports, and the ill effects of workplace stress on mental and physical health are well documented.
Being constantly stressed and unhappy at work can lead to even more serious problems, such as depression and chronic anxiety. In turn, those conditions can cause fatigue, decreased energy, and difficulty concentrating, all of which take a toll on job performance.
Gallup also points out that engagement is linked to key corporate elements such as profitability, quality, safety, customer engagement, and retention. Strive to keep your workers happy and satisfied with their jobs and you will share in the positive outcome.
